Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) – Intensive Courses

Modern Standard Arabic classes are available throughout the year at the Taa Marbouta Language Centre.
Our new intensive format runs for three weeks (60 hours total), with 20 hours per week (Monday to Friday), and now includes one full day trip and one themed workshop at no extra fee. These components are designed to combine structured classroom learning with real-life cultural immersion.

We have developed our own curriculum for Modern Standard Arabic, tailored to place Tunisia and North Africa at the center of study. The programme integrates all four key skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — within authentic cultural contexts. While we value established Arabic learning resources such as al-Kitaab, Alif Baa, Elementary Modern Standard Arabic, and Media Arabic: An Essential Vocabulary, our approach brings the Tunisian and Maghrebi dimension to the forefront.

We remain flexible and responsive to the goals of advanced learners and those following specific university curricula, with a proven record of adapting our programme to fit institutional requirements.

At the beginner level, students learn the Arabic alphabet, essential grammar, and key expressions, while applying their new skills in real settings around Tunis. Our experienced and patient instructors create a supportive, communicative environment that allows learners to progress confidently.

At the intermediate level, courses combine grammar, writing, listening, reading, and speaking with interactive workshops and field experiences exploring topics such as Tunisian culture, minorities, democracy, human rights, journalism, and migration. Instruction is conducted entirely in Arabic, and internship options become available at this stage.

At the advanced level, content is fully personalized according to each student’s academic or professional focus. Many of our instructors hold or are pursuing PhDs and design advanced modules linked to fields such as anthropology, politics, history, migration, and human rights. Students at this level also gain access to research and internship placements through our network of Tunisian and international partners.

We believe language learning should extend beyond the classroom. Each intensive session therefore includes one day trip (for example, to historical or cultural sites) and one practical workshop (such as a cooking, calligraphy, or media session) — both offered at no additional cost. These activities promote deeper cultural understanding and make Arabic study at Taa Marbouta an engaging, holistic experience.

Study material fees are included.
