My two months at Taa Marbouta were an unforgettable experience that completely elevated my Arabic ability. The classes are super small and tailored to and accommodating students' specific teams. Several times, myself or a classmate mentioned a grammar topic that we were a bit shaky on, and the teacher made sure to devote a whole lesson to it in the future. The classes are very interactive with games, conversations, mock debates, and even singing interspersed into more traditional learning methods. Unlike many Arabic classes in which students drudge through endless verb rules and writing exercises, at Taa Marbouta equal attention is given to the four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening, in addition to a fifth, equally important skill: cultural knowledge. Embedding the discovery of Tunisian culture was something Taa Marbouta excelled in. The center has a custom designed curriculum in which every lesson and even almost every reading passage, listening portion, or sample sentence is focused on Tunisian or Arab culture. In my class, we learned about Tunisia's Amazigh and Carthaginian roots, economic situation, and beloved poet Abu Qacem Al-Shabi, all while using Arabic as the medium of learning. A love for sharing Tunisian culture is clearly evident outside of the classroom as well. All of Taa Marbouta's staff members radiate a warm openness that made it easy to ask them a question or pick up a conversation. Because of this, even though I only took Modern Standard Arabic classes at Taa Marbouta, I ended up learning some of the Tunisian dialect Darja, thanks to the staff's greetings. Another thing I appreciated about the pedagogy was the teachers' commitment to giving quick and extensive feedback. I always got one-on-one feedback on my homework assignments and multiple teachers encouraged me to email them if I ever did any additional personal writing so they could give corrections and feedback. It is worth mentioning that both Taa Marbouta's facilities and its environs are very pleasant. The building is covered inside and out with beautiful murals and features a peaceful garden courtyard as well as a kitchen always equipped with hot coffee and some small sweets. Before coming to Tunisia, I was trepidatious about how far Taa Marbouta's location in La Marsa was on the map from downtown Tunis. I was worried about being stuck in a sleepy suburb. I didn't know that La Marsa is a trendy, artistic, lively beach town that comes alive every day and night with a charm that many Tunisians told me is the best in all of Tunisia. A few minutes walk from Taa Marbouta one finds turquoise Mediterranean waters, cute cafes, traditional architecture, and stations for a train and shared taxis that quickly get you into Tunis. Taa Marbouta helped me with more than just language learning. They connected me with a beautiful host family living less than a kilometer away that really set my experience in Tunisia apart. the centre connected me with a vetted and experienced host family that in additional to providing me with affordable and comfortable accomodations, gave me an invaluable glimpse into Tunisian family life. In short, I strongly recommend studying at Taa Marbouta!

I spent nine months studying at Taa Marbouta in MSA intensive classes, private classes, then dialect classes. The teaching was exceptionally thoughtfully delivered at each stage. I'm really happy with the progress I made (which even gave me the confidence to spend several hours chatting to members of a family at the end of my road!) and I'm grateful above all for the kindness of the teachers in adapting to my needs and those of my classmates. This was the first year of a partnership between this language centre and my university, and I hope to encourage other students (and anyone reading this review :)) to study at Taa Marbouta. The curriculum was always engaging, the lessons were enjoyable as well as educational, and it was a pleasure to spend time in this beautiful location with so many caring people. ...عيشك برشا للجميع و إلى اللقاء

As part of the University of Exeter’s Global Leaders Experience 2025, I visited Taa Marbouta language school. Also, TM organised and led many of our educational trips around Tunisia. The staff of the language school were incredibly lovely, hospitable, engaging and caring. They went above and beyond to look after us and ensure we learnt plenty. Additionally, the language school has good facilities and is close to many attractions making it easy for students to spend time around Tunis, plus we were well fed. Whilst some guest speakers were more impactful than others, every talk impacted me. There were some difficulties throughout the trip, particularly regarding the planned timings of activities, yet I believe that Taa Marbouta will have learnt from our group’s experience with them and will be able to support even better trips in future! Consequently, I feel that their service was excellent.

Learn Arabic in Tunisia

Arabic is one of the six official UN languages and the mother tongue of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Modern Standard Arabic is the language of the media and formal communication. At the Taa Marbouta Language Centre we provide Modern Standard Arabic classes targeting working professionals and students, whether they are at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level. Students can benefit from the flexible curriculum that we have designed, based on their interests and goals. Group classes are available in-person at our centre in Carthage, Tunis, while private classes can be taken online or in-person. While formal Arabic provides an element of linguistic unity throughout the Arab world, dozens of dialects are spoken ‘on the street’ across the region. In reality, many dialects mix both Modern Standard Arabic and local terminology. At the Taa Marbouta Language Centre we teach the Tunisian dialect, also known as Darija. Our experienced teachers will give you lessons and courses that are tailored to help you learn Tunisian Arabic effectively. Group classes are available in-person at our centre in Carthage, Tunis, while private classes can be taken online or in-person.
